Rock Mechanics Award: Call for Nominations

The Rock Engineering Society of CIM has been awarding a CIM member each year for their contributions to the field of Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering. The nomination is now open for the 2024 award program.
If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else you believe should be recognized for their dedication and contribution to research, development or field applications of rock mechanics, you can submit your nomination to the chair of the Rock Engineering Society at kamran.esmaeili@utoronto.ca by October 1, 2023.
The award recipient will be selected by the CIM Rock Engineering Society and presented during the annual CIM convention event in 2024.

New Young Professional Position on CARMA Executive Committee

The CARMA Executive Committee has created a new Young Professional position on the Executive Committee! We hope this position will contribute to the active growth of CARMA’s activities and membership.
We seek applications from CARMA members to fill this two-year volunteer position who will be less than 35 years of age as of August 1, 2024. The role will involve attending approximately 6 Executive Committee meetings per year, chairing and/or participating in subcommittees, and generally contributing to CARMA activities. More details about the position are available in the Constitution document on the CARMA website.
If you are a CIM member and selected Rock Engineering Society (RES) as one of your top choices and have paid your membership for the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM), then this grants you CARMA membership.
Please submit your application by July 15, 2023, to contactus@carma-rocks.ca, including (1) a maximum 2-page cover letter discussing your interest in the role and ideas for new initiatives and (2) your resumé/CV highlighting your involvement with rock mechanics and/or rock engineering. Your resumé/CV must state your membership number with the Canadian Geotechnical Society and/or Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum.
