Who We Are

The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) is Canada’s trusted authority for the minerals and metals industry.

We are a member-based, not-for-profit professional association that advances knowledge, standards, and professional development across the mining lifecycle. Together, we help shape the future of responsible mining in Canada and around the world.

Founded in 1898, CIM continues to connect a global network of industry professionals through technical societies, nationwide branches, and year-round events such as CIM CONNECT, Canada’s premier mining convention and expo.

CIM also advances excellence through the CIM Awards. Each year, we recognize leadership, technical innovation, safety achievements, and community contributions that strengthen professional practice across the industry.
