Shine a light on excellence

Every day across Canada, leaders, innovators, and mentors across the mining, metallurgical, and petroleum industries push our sector forward. They pioneer safer operations and drive new and sustainable technologies that advance our professional community.

Yet, too often, their groundbreaking contributions remain hidden.

The 2027 CIM Awards season has begun, and we need your help to recognize and celebrate the individuals and organizations making a difference.

Put deserving peers front and centre

Help us raise the bar for nominations this season. We know the talent, passion, and dedication in our community haven’t slowed down.

Recognizing your peers not only honours their individual dedication, but it also inspires the next generation of professionals entering the minerals industry. If you work alongside someone whose contributions deserve national recognition, now is the time to step forward and make their impact known.

Career Excellence Awards

Whether your nominee is a lifelong volunteer, an industry pioneer, or a technical visionary, CIM offers several distinguished honours to reflect their impact:

1. CIM Fellowship for outstanding and continuous contributions to CIM and/or the mining, metallurgical, and petroleum sectors.
2. CIM Distinguished Service Medal for exceptional, meritorious service rendered to the Institute or the mineral industry as a whole.
3. Selwyn Blaylock Canadian Mining Excellence Award for distinguished service to Canada through exceptional achievement in mining, metallurgy, or geology.
4. Medal for Meritorious Contributions to Mining (Sponsored by Vale Base Metals) for practical, meritorious advancements and contributions to the Canadian mining and metallurgical landscape.

What you need to prepare a nomination

Submitting a nomination is straightforward, but strong packages take thoughtful preparation. To submit a candidate for consideration, ensure you have:

1. Three (3) Written & Signed Recommendations: Each supporting letter must be a minimum of 250 words, detailing the candidate’s impact, character, and achievements.
2. Candidate CV or Biography: An up-to-date summary highlighting their professional history, milestones, and industry service.
