The CIM Edmonton Branch proudly supports a dynamic community of professionals, students, and stakeholders across the mining and minerals industries in Alberta’s capital region.

After a successful relaunch in 2024 following four years of dormancy, the branch has quickly re-established itself as a premier hub for technical knowledge-sharing, industry networking, and professional/academic development.

Our executive team is comprised of industry leaders and academics, with strong representation from mining companies, service providers, and the University of Alberta. This balance ensures our programming remains relevant and inclusive, addressing the evolving technical, economic, and environmental developments across the sector.

2025–2026 Highlights:

• Unprecedented event engagement: Hosted 9 technical and social events attracting over 880 total attendees, covering critical topics such as oilsands developments, heavy equipment automation, international project economics, carbon capture, market outlooks, and diversity in mining.
• Robust financial & corporate sponsorship: Raised $43,500 in total sponsorship funds, supported by 20 event sponsors across 35 sponsorship spots, along with 22 dedicated community sponsors. Sponsorship support also enabled hosted drink tickets at key networking events.
• Direct investments in next-gen talent: Awarded $10,500 in student awards, conference travel bursaries, and direct funding for the University of Alberta Mining Engineering Club and ATLAS (Geosciences). Subsidized student event participation at $10 per event, resulting in over 200 student attendances across the season.
• Interactive geo corner: Maintained the popular "Geo Corner" display prior to technical presentations, giving attendees hands-on access to regional rock samples with support from board members and APEX Geosciences.
• Collaborative industry events: Co-hosted major regional gatherings, including the season-ending ACR-AMSA-CIM Joint Social ("Mining Under the Northern Sky"), attracting 175 industry professionals and partners.

We welcome anyone interested in the natural resource and mining industry to attend our monthly networking events, student nights, and social events. Our programming fosters cross-disciplinary dialogue and provides a welcoming space to connect with industry experts, suppliers, and students alike.
