Diavik Diamond Mine operated for 23 years in a remote region about 300 kilometers northeast of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, producing more than 150 million carats of diamonds before ending production in March 2026.
The design, construction and operation of Diavik is a story of success on a grand scale, in part because it is in one of the most challenging environments in the world: the sub-Arctic tundra, one of the world’s most pristine environments.
Through innovation, world class engineering technologies, and respectful partnerships with Indigenous organizations, Diavik safely mined some of the world’s most ethical diamonds with minimal impact on the local land, water, and wildlife.
Diavik’s relentless commitment to safety is a testament to the care that each crew member demonstrates to their colleagues, and this focus will continue through closure and reclamation.
