Overview

Stope optimization is a critical component of underground mine planning, enabling engineers to design and evaluate economic mining shapes that maximize resource recovery while minimizing dilution and cost. This session provides an overview of stope optimization in Vulcan, beginning with data management and data review requirements to ensure inputs are accurate and consistent. Emphasis is placed on best practices when validating grades, densities, and economic parameters prior to optimization as well as techniques regarding deposit orientations and stope framework for optimization..

The general workflow for stope optimization will be presented, followed by a question and answer session. Participants will gain insight into configuring stope panels, applying economic and geometric constraints, and analyzing results to support robust mine design. The presented case study will highlight the application of these techniques to narrow vein deposits requiring precision in design and evaluation.

Through practical examples and step-by-step guidance, this session equips participants with the knowledge to effectively apply Vulcan’s stope optimization tools in a complex geological and operational setting.
