CIM Fellowship
Mathieu Brochu is an associate professor in the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering at McGill University and the associate director of the McGill Institute for Aerospace Engineering. He was Canada Research Chair II, Hydro-Québec Scholar and Gerald Hatch Fellow. Mathieu served for nine years as graduate program director and two years as associate chair academic program in his department.
Brochu has partnered with over 40 companies worldwide to demystify the competitive interactions between metal powder engineering, their 3D printing and sinterability. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed and conference publications and given 95 keynote/invited presentations worldwide. He holds seven patents and has trained 23 PDFs, 48 PhDs, and 35 MSc students. He has received the Distinguished Materials Scientist (2021) and the Brimacombe (2011) Awards from the Metallurgy and Materials Society of CIM (MetSoc). He mentors 3D printing clubs in colleges and high schools to foster interest in STEM.
Brochu has contributed to MetSoc since 1998, serving as a board member in various positions, including three times as the Conference of Metallurgy and Materials (COM) program chair and on the Canadian Materials Science Conference (CMSC) advisory committee and nominating committee. Over 17 years, he has overseen three Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) admission exams to assess the knowledge of internationally trained engineers. He has chaired and co-chaired 19 international symposia.
