Barlow Medal for Best Geological Paper

In recognition of an excellent paper entitled “Characteristics of Mineralization at the Main Zone of the Clarence Stream Gold Deposit, Southwestern New Brunswick, Canada: Evidence for an Intrusion-Related Gold System in the Northern Appalachian Orogen.”

Kathleen (Kay) Thorne received her B.Sc. in geology from the University of New Brunswick in 1996. She worked as an exploration geologist on various gold projects in southern New Brunswick before joining the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources in 2002. In 2005, she completed her PhD degree at the University of New Brunswick, which focused on the Clarence Stream intrusion-related gold deposit in southwestern New Brunswick. As a metallic mineral deposits geologist for southern New Brunswick, her research focuses mainly on characterizing and modelling gold and tungsten deposits. Kay is a member of PDAC, SEG, APEGNB, CIM, and served for several years as editor of The GANGUEnewsletter for the Mineral Deposits Division of the Geological Association of Canada.
