Proposed Additions to the CIM Definition Standards for Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves
The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) is pleased to announce the opening of a public comment period for proposed updates to the 2014 CIM Definition Standards for Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves (CIM Definition Standards), specifically the inclusion of three new definitions: exploration target, scoping study, and life of mine plan.
As part of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) Project to Modernize Mineral Disclosure Requirements, the CSA requested the CIM Mineral Resource and Mineral Reserve Committee to prepare these three new definitions. CIM plans to include these in the CIM Definition Standards.
The CIM Definition Standards establish definitions and guidance on the definitions for Mineral Resources, Mineral Reserves, and mining studies used in Canada. In addition to the Mineral Resource, Mineral Reserve, and mining study definitions incorporated, by reference, into National Instrument 43-101 – Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects (NI 43-101), these three new definitions will also be incorporated by reference when the modernization of NI 43-101 is finalized. The current 2014 CIM Definition Standards can be viewed at mrmr.cim.org.
How to Participate
CIM invites all stakeholders—including geoscientists, engineers, regulators, investors, and members of the public—to review the three new draft definitions and provide feedback.
