CIM President Elect Roy Slack inducted into SAMSSA Hall of Fame

Elle Crosby - 15 November 2018

The Sudbury Area Mining Supply and Service Association (SAMSSA) announced on November 12 that Roy Slack will be inducted into its Hall of Fame. Slack is the CIM President Elect and will take over as President in May when Janice Zinck’s term ends. He is also the President of Cementation Mining in North Bay, Ontario.

Slack has received several accolades for his outstanding contributions to the mining industry, including the Engineer’s Medal for Entrepreneurship by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) in 2008 and the CIM Metal Mining Society Award in 2009. He was also named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International in 2012.

“It is always great to get recognition from your peers. I have been in the mine service industry my whole career building mines and I have a great deal of respect and affinity for SAMSSA members, having been based in the Sudbury / North Bay area for most of my career. I have worked closely with many of the member companies and recognize the depth of mining support, industry knowledge and service that is based in Northern Ontario,” said Slack.

Slack was previously on the board of the Mining Innovation Rehabilitation and Applied Research Corporation (MIRARCO) and is currently on the board of the Northern Centre for Advanced Technology (NORCAT).

“Roy is a man of action who quickly and effectively brings big ideas from concept to reality by inspiring and energizing those around him. His passion for and dedication to the mining community – both locally and at large – makes him a tremendous ambassador for our industry. CIM is very fortunate to benefit from Roy’s leadership as our President Elect and we would like to congratulate him on receiving this great honour,” said Angela Hamlyn, CEO of CIM.

The induction ceremony will take place at the SAMSSA annual general meeting on December 10 at Dynamic Earth.
