Mining’s most influential leaders gathered bright and early on Sunday morning to discuss the succession of the industry. The second annual Leadership Congress brought together mining and association executives, along with representatives from CIM societies and branches, to consider ways to attract and engage future volunteer leaders.

Annual general meeting

CIM’s strategic plan was a major focus at this year’s AGM, where everyone was energized to follow through on the strategic goals set out by CIM’s members. Sean Waller handed off his position as president of CIM to the very capable Garth Kirkham, who said that he does not have an overarching plan for his term other than to deliver on what members want. “What I’m going to do for the year is what you tell me to do,” he said.
“There’s just so much that Garth has done,” Waller said after sharing a snapshot of Kirkham’s impressive CV.

On his way to investor relations meetings in Europe, the former president of CIM stopped by Montreal for a few days to take in some parts of the CIM Convention, including the presidents’ dinner on Saturday night. We caught up with him on the way to the St. James Club.
