Bill Hume attended his first CIM Branch meetings in Cobalt in the late 60s, while attending the Haileybury School of Mines. After completing Queen's and graduating as a mining engineer he found his way to the Iron Ore Company of Canada. While in Labrador, he was active in local CIM affairs and was instrumental in bringing the first ever Open Pit Operators Conference to this remote mining camp.
In the 1980s he was lured to the West, and became an active supporter of local branches in Calgary, Edmonton, Estevan, and Hinton. He served as a founding member of the South Saskatchewan Prairie Branch and was Chairman of the Coal Division in 1991.
As a Luscar Manager for just under 20 years, he worked in many volunteer organizations, to support the local mining communities, where he and his wife Linda raised two daughters. Other interests include, the mentoring of young professionals, and promoting the tremendous reclamation efforts of mining companies. Bill and Linda currently reside in Edmonton.
