At the time of his CIM Presidency, Sean Waller was the president and a director of Candente Copper Corp., a development company based in Vancouver. He is a registered professional engineer with more than 30 years of international experience in mining management, project management, evaluation, design and operation. Prior to joining Candente he was with AMEC Americas Limited Mining Division ("AMEC") in Vancouver where he held the positions of Vice President of Global Business Development and Senior Project Manager.

Prior to AMEC, Waller worked with SNC-Lavalin's Mining Division in management and senior technical roles. He also previously worked with Knelson Concentrators and Freeport-McMoran at its Grasberg copper operation in Indonesia. Waller has been a member of CIM for over 30 years. His service to CIM started in 1998 when he joined the Vancouver Branch as chair of the awards committee. Waller subsequently served as chair of the Vancouver Branch for two separate terms. Waller served on the CIM National Executive Council as Vice President for District 6 (British Columbia and Yukon) during the period of 2008 to 2010, during which time he was also the General Chair of the Organizing Committee for the Annual Conference and Exhibition in Vancouver in 2010.

Waller has undergraduate degrees in geology and geological engineering from the University of British Columbia and the Montana School of Mines respectively, plus a master's degree in mineral process engineering from the Montana School of Mines.
