(Biography from 2007) Russell E. Hallbauer graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in 1979 with a B.Sc. in mining engineering. He is a registered professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers of British Columbia. In 1983, he joined Teck Corporation's Bullmoose Mine, advancing through engineering and supervisory positions to become mine superintendent in 1987, and in 1992, became general manager of Quintette Coal. In 1995, he assumed new responsibilities in Vancouver when he was appointed general manager, coal operations, overseeing Teck's three operating coal mines in British Columbia.

In 2002, Hallbauer was appointed general manager, base metal joint ventures, responsible for Teck Cominco's interests in Highland Valley Copper in British Columbie, Antamina in Peru, and Louvicourt in Quebec. He has been a director of the Mining Association of British Columbia since 1991 and chairman of the board from 2002-2004. During this period, he was actively involved in the mining educational initiatives of the association, the BC Mining Museum, and was chairman of the British Columbia Institute of Technology's Mining Advisory Group.

A member of CIM since 1975, he is currently the president and CEO of Taseko Mines Limited, a British Columbian-headquartered copper and molybdenum producer.
