Piers Ebsworth graduated in mining engineering from the Royal School of Mines, London, in 1952, joining Roan Selection Trust in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia).

He emigrated to Canada in 1955, joining Renabie Mines in northern Ontario before moving to the Canadian Dyno uranium mine in Bancroft in 1958.  This was followed by three years in Chibougamau working at Copper Rand and as shaft engineer during sinking at Portage Island.

From 1963 to 1971 he held management positions at New Calumet Mines in the Ottawa Valley, and at the Copperfields mine in Temagami, Ontario.

In 1972 he joined Mount Bruno Quarries as assistant manager until 1979 when he was hired by The SNC Group in Montreal.  He worked on a variety of projects, often involving travel to distant parts such as Ecuador, New Caledonia, Uganda, Mauritania, India and Uzbekistan.

Upon retirement in 1995 as director of mining at SNC-Lavalin, he continued to work as a private consultant (mostly with SNC) until finally retiring in 2000 after a 47-year career.

Ebsworth joined CIM in 1958, is a Life Member and a 50-Year Club member, and regularly supports the Montreal Branch to this day.
