
Pierre Laroche graduated from the École Polytechnique de Montréal in 1969 in mining engineering, and completed his master’s degree in 1970.
Following a stint in industrial engineering at QIT-Fer et Titane, he has held various management positions (operations and services) at the chrysotile mines in the Thetford Mines region since 1972. He helped develop an action plan that enabled significant improvement in workplace health in the chrysotile mines and mills.
Over the years, Pierre has been involved with a number of educational, cultural, scientific, sports, community and socio-economic organizations. He was co-founder of the Société minéralogique de la région de l’Amiante and of the Musée minéralogique et minier de Thetford Mines.
