Barlow Medal for Best Geological Paper
In recognition of an excellent paper entitled “Characteristics of Mineralization at the Main Zone of the Clarence Stream Gold Deposit, Southwestern New Brunswick, Canada: Evidence for an Intrusion-Related Gold System in the Northern Appalachian Orogen.”
(Biography from 1992) Les Fyffe received his M.Sc. in geology from the University of New Brunswick in 1971, after which he joined the Geological Surveys Branch of the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources. He has published approximately 70 government reports and scientific papers describing the geology and mineral deposits of New Brunswick. These include his contributions to The Last Billion Years, a popular book published by the Atlantic Geoscience Society on the geology of the Maritime Provinces.
Fyffe served as president of the Atlantic Geoscience Society from 1993 to 1994 and has been associate editor of Atlantic Geology since 1984. He received the Dr. W.J. Wright Award in 1990 from the CIM New Brunswick Branch for his contributions to the minerals industry of New Brunswick; CIM’s Julian Boldy Memorial Award in 1992 in recognition of his years of service as Geological Society editor of the CIM Bulletin; and the Abraham Gesner Medal in 1993 from the Atlantic Geoscience Society for contributions to the advancement of geoscience knowledge in New Brunswick. Fyffe is currently director of the New Brunswick Geological Surveys Branch in Fredericton, NB.
