Upon completing of his studies in Winnipeg, Gordon Morris enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in Victoria for three years where he also played junior hockey. Gordon returned to Winnipeg in 1970 and joined Wajax. In 1976, he moved to Saskatchewan to work as a sales manager in the mine equipment business. He relocated to Alberta in 1985 as the manager in the mining division of TCM Equipment before returning to Wajax in 1993.

He joined CIM in 1979 and served as the chair of the Saskatchewan Mines Support Group for seven years. In 1991, he took an active role with the CIM Coal and Industrial Minerals Society as director of education speaking to schools, colleges and universities in Western Canada on “Careers in Mining.”

He was on the organizing committees of Potash 83, CIM AGM in Edmonton/Calgary and actively involved in the Coal Association of Canada.
