Eugene Lei leads the corporate development team that assesses the suitability of assets and partnerships to support Hudbay’s growth strategy, as either potential acquisitions, strategic partnerships or as prospects for an investment position.

Lei is a crucial liaison between public markets, investment banks, peer and junior mining companies and Hudbay’s successful acquisition of Augusta Resource Corporation. He joined Hudbay in 2012, after 11 years as a career investment banker. Prior to joining Hudbay, Lei was Managing Director, Mining at Macquarie Capital Markets Canada, working as an advisor on global and domestic mergers and acquisitions and equity capital markets offerings.

Lei holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University.
