Abstract: Current events demonstrate, once again, that thorough risk management is key to the successful completion of natural resource projects. Lessons learned from past experiences demonstrate that by employing sustainable development principles, risk management can be improved. This includes the optimization of energy efficiency, water usage, health and safety and, most importantly, community outreach at the preliminary phase of development projects.
