Introducing The Business of Flotation
As Canada’s trusted authority for the minerals and metals industry, CIM supports professionals in advancing technical excellence across the mining lifecycle. We are pleased to introduce The Business of Flotation, a new resource that reframes flotation as an integrated business decision, and invite you to a complimentary webinar with the authors.
A New Perspective
Many operations treat flotation primarily as a metallurgical process. The Business of Flotation challenges that view. It demonstrates that flotation is a strategic lever for optimizing paymetal recovery and improving concentrator performance.
The authors bring together the technical and operational disciplines that influence flotation performance, linking fundamentals such as mineralogy, sampling, electrochemistry, reagent chemistry, and grinding with diagnostic and circuit-analysis tools. The result is a practical framework for understanding and closing the performance gap in many concentrators.
What You Will Discover in the Book:
- A Multidisciplinary Core: The book builds on the core technical areas that govern flotation outcomes, including sampling, mineralogy, semiconductor theory, electrochemistry, and flotation testing, supported by reagent chemistry and grinding fundamentals.
- Asset Management Optimization: A focus on asset management optimization and operational decision-making emphasizes how technical choices influence business results.
- Translating Theory to Practice: Guidance on laboratory diagnostics, circuit analysis, and trial design to support evidence-based improvements.
- Roadmap for Improvement: A step-by-step structure for statistically designed plant-scale trials that help teams evaluate improvements.
As mineralogical complexity and operational demands increase, The Business of Flotation provides a timely, forward-looking methodology for strengthening concentrator performance.
Honouring Dee Bradshaw
A portion of book sales will support a travel fund in honour of the late Professor Dee Bradshaw (University of Cape Town). This fund will help offset the travel costs for PhD students presenting at the Metallurgy and Materials Society of CIM’s annual Conference of Metallurgy and Materials.
