W. R. (Bob) Dengler, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in Aurora, Ontario, at the age of 84. He was a true mining industry pioneer and record-setting aviator with an unyielding spirit. Bob lived a life brimming with adventure and accomplishment.

Bob’s interest in mining began during his time as a hard rock miner. In 1965, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from Queen’s University. He then became VP and General Manager at Redpath Mining, overseeing global projects. In 1980, he co-founded Dynatec Mining Limited with William (Bill) Shaver, growing it into an international force.

Under his leadership, Dynatec expanded into the U.S. and developed groundbreaking equipment and processes. Bob also tirelessly lectured on mining safety and was recognized for his contributions with an Honorary Doctorate from Queen’s University in 1988 and the CIM McParland Memorial Award in 1990. He retired as CEO in 2005 and served as Vice-Chairman until 2007.

Beyond his professional life, Bob's love for golf was rivaled only by his passion for flying and fast cars, especially Ferraris and the Ferrari Formula 1 Team. In 2005, at 66, he earned his helicopter pilot’s license, culminating in the historic 2017 Canada 150 Global Odyssey, the first Canadian circumnavigation of the world by helicopter, which he completed with his son, Steven.

Bob made an indelible mark on everyone he met, leaving behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter. He was a dedicated CIM life member and corporate member. He will be remembered always with affection.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, from 1:00-4:00 PM at Magna Golf Club in Aurora. In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family has suggested that donations may be made to the Southlake Regional Cancer Centre at Southlake.ca/BobDengler.
