CIM to host GMPA Meeting in Vancouver

26 April 2018

The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) will host the annual meeting of the Global Minerals Professionals Alliance (GMPA) on Friday, May 4, 2018 in conjunction with the CIM Convention 2018 in Vancouver. Founded in 2013 as a collaboration between leading professional organizations for minerals around the world, GMPA strives to foster the exchange of knowledge and technology, promote technical and professional excellence, facilitate opportunities for business networking, partnership and public information. In addition to CIM, member organizations include: the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM), and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME).

“As one of the founding partners of the GMPA, we are very proud to host this noteworthy event in Canada this year,” said CIM Executive Director Angela Hamlyn, who explains that all member organizations will be represented at the upcoming meeting. “Meeting face-to-face affords us an excellent opportunity to benchmark, share best practices and examine industry trends with our global sister societies.”

GMPA member institutes take a leadership role in the pursuit and continuing development of best practice professionalism in the minerals industries. Areas of focus include science, community engagement, as well as mineral economics and finance.

Ken Thomas, CIM President 2017-2018, adds, “This international organization reflects the importance minerals and mining has on daily life around the globe, giving all of us the standard of living we cherish.”
