Canadian professional engineers and geoscientists must follow a specific set of guidelines in order to maintain their membership with their respective orders. One of these guidelines is the requirement (voluntary or mandatory) to earn professional development hours (PDHs) to accumulate continuing professional development credits (CPDs) in a variety of activities that fall within these categories:

  • Professional practice (the actual practice of engineering within one’s area of expertise)
  • Formal activity (participation in structured courses or programs)
  • Informal activity
  • Participation (peer interaction that exposes one to new ideas and technologies)
  • Presentations
  • Contribution to knowledge

There are many ways CIM can help you achieve this.
