Cementation wins Gold Award at Canada's Safest Employer Gala

For the second year in a row, Cementation won the Gold Award at the Canada’s Safest Employers Awards Gala for the Mining and Natural Resources category. Roy Slack, president of Cementation Canada and incoming CIM president-elect, said that Cementation was “thrilled” to win the award.

“Our company, management and our supervisors all care about the well-being of our employees and one of the ways we demonstrate that care is through our commitment to safety,” said Slack.

In a CIM Magazine column, Slack explains his philosophy on risk mitigation in the mining industry – that not falling victim to “go fever”, the desire to push forward and take chances when substandard conditions exist, is key to Cementation’s safety strategies.

Canada’s Safest Employers Awards Gala, held this year on October 24, recognizes companies from many different industries in Canada with outstanding accomplishments in promoting the health and safety of their workers. The companies are evaluated on their occupational health and safety management, training, incident investigation and emergency preparedness as well as on innovative health and safety initiatives they may use.
