Increasing Sustainability of Iron Ore Mining in Newfoundland and Labrador

The presentation will give an overview of existing and prospective iron ore mines in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, including the expansion and subsequent contraction of iron ore output from the province during the period 2011 to 2015. Particular focus will be given to government-led initiatives designed to increase the sustainability of iron ore mining in the province, including investments in electricity generation and transmission, new industrial power rates, a new Aboriginal consultation policy, government-funded infrastructure studies, stable mining taxes, and international promotion activities with a focus on China.
