The past demands for energy and the contribution~ by the major sources are shown for the world and regions, and for Canada. Three forecasts of future demand are presented. By the year 2000, the world will be consuming energy at a rate of 670-700 x 1015 Btu/year. Canada's rate is estimated at 20 x 1015 Btu/year. Electricity will increase its portion of energy from 7.5 per cent to 15 per cent, and more than 40 per cent of the primary energy w1ll. be required to generate 1t.
