On the Constitution of Matte

THE paper consists of four sections: (1) a discussion of early work; (2) presentation of the results of a chemical investigation of Falconbridge nickel-copper blast-furnace matte; (3) application of the results of this investigation to mattes in general; and ( 4) a summary of conclusions. All general discussion will be confined to the fundamental system of ferrous-cuprous sulphides (FeS-Cu2S). Nickel-, lead-, and zinc-bearing mattes will be treated as minor varieties of the parent system.
