Island Falls Power Development on the Churchill River

CHURCHILL river was named for John Churchill, first Duke of Marlborough and third Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company, in the latter part of the 17th century, some fifty years after the ill-fated Danish expedition, led by Munck, had abandoned the sire of the now famous seaport of Churchill, as a worthless, cold, disease-ridden country.
