Soft energy efficiency measures and innovations – Incremental gains in mines

CIM MEMO 2008
Pierre Laliberté,
Abstract The use of new technologies and control systems aimed at energy savings in a mining operation could lead to believe that it is enough to simply add the potential energy savings of each of these technologies to evaluate the total savings. A simplistic addition of the savings percentages could, in some cases, exceed 100%, which is obviously completely illogical. Hydro-Quebec mandated CANMET-MMSL to conduct a study and its results will be used to develop a simulation model in order to evaluate the incremental gains related to the application of a series of innovations in a mining operation. Some parts of the developed model will be shown during the presentation and examples will also be submitted.
