Soft energy efficiency measures and innovation – Incremental gains in mines
CIM Montreal 2007
Pierre Laliberté, Roger Lacroix,
The use of several new technologies and control systems aimed at energy savings in a mining operation could lead to believe that it is enough to simply add the potential energy savings of each of these technologies to evaluate the total savings. A simplistic addition of the savings percentages could, in some cases, exceed 100%, which is obviously completely incoherent. The CANMET-MMSL is presently conducting a study and its results will be used to assess the influence of certain technologies and control systems aimed at energy savings as well as to evaluate the impact from one technology to the other. Moreover, a simulation model will be created in order to evaluate the incremental gains related to the application of a series of innovations in a mining operation. A progress report on this project will be provided during the presentation and dome examples will be submitted.
