Lessons Learned and Best Practices - Ontario's Mining Sector Compressed Air System Energy Efficiency Pilot Project

CIM Montreal 2007
Abstract The Ontario Mining Association and Ontario Power Authority initiated a pilot project in 2006 aimed at improving the overall energy performance of compressed air in Ontario's mining sector. Three mine sites, representing a cross section of mine size and level of energy management practices, participated in the pilot project. The participants implemented a process of detecting, measuring and managing system inefficiencies with an emphasis to reduce air leaks and wastage. As part of building a “culture of conservation”, training and awareness programs regarding compressed air were also heightened. Each participant has the basis for a sustainable air leak management program. This presentation will report on the key project outcomes, lessons learned and best practices.
