A study of cemented crude tailings backfill technology based on vertical sand silo

Abstract Key point of cemented crude tailings backfill is dewatering and condensation of crude tailings. A new technology characterized by rapidly non-mechanical condensation of crude tailings has been developed based on a large number of laboratorial experiments and field test, where dynamic settlement and continual slurry preparation of crude tailings in vertical sand silo are eventually realized by addition of effective flocculating agent named as NPA. It is approved that sedimentation velocity of interface between crude tailings and water after NPA was added is 10 to 20 times higher than that without any flocculating agent, mass fraction of sand slurry disposed from bottom of vertical sand silo reaches to 70%, and that solid particle content of waste water meets with national standard. Simple adding system and appliances of flocculating agent suggested in this paper exert little bad influence on current sand silo and have passed industrial test. Processing cost of crude tailings by the new technology is only 10% to 20% of that by mechanical condensation.
