Innovative Use of Advanced Technology in Mining

CIM Vancouver 2006
Abstract Increasing safety and productivity are established pathways to reducing mine operating costs. Productivity improvements have historically been sought through improved work practices, larger scale operations and increasing equipment sizes. In the last decade, equipment manufacturers have been able to take advantage of better design tools to optimize productivity and payload without significantly increasing the size of the equipment relative to their performance increase. More recent improvements in equipment performance and reliability have been made through incorporating advanced technologies. Mine operators are finding innovative ways to improve their operations through utilization of available information in these new systems in ways that weren’t previously envisioned. This presentation will demonstrate some of those innovative applications and explore future opportunities for performance and reliability increases.
