Innovation Through the Effective and Novel use of Information Technology and Business Process Redesign

CIM Vancouver 2006
Sean Dessureault,
Abstract The effective use of novel technology is dependent on several critical factors in its implementation phase. Few technologies are more complex in its implementation than information technology (IT) as it should fundamentally change the specific activities of technical and managerial personnel. The knowledge made available from this enabling IT is created through a combination of new analysis techniques and technology such as data warehousing and data mining. Action from that knowledge is made available through Business Process Redesign techniques which can only be successful if the cultural situation in the mine is considered. These relatively new technologies and techniques, largely developed in other industries, will be reviewed to prompt discussion on how to adapt these to a mine environment.
