Géogolf tournament

The Géogolf tournament was held at the Club de golf St-Laurent on Île d’Orléans on Septembre 15. The event was organized by the Quebec Branch with the help of Gilles Mahoney, a retiree of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Wildlife. The winning team included Jacques Bonneau, Paul Archer of Mines d’Or Virginia, Yvon Trudeau of SOQUEM, and Steve Larouche of Forages Chibougamau.

Distinguished lecturer visits Quebec Branch

Mimoun Elboujdaini, CANMET and CIM Distinguished Lecturer, recently spoke to the Quebec Branch about the challenges of oil and gas pipeline steels, hydrogen-induced cracking, stress corrosion cracking susceptibility, and microstructure. The 35 attendees learned, among other things, that each steel has a maximum level of tolerance to hydrogen, that corrosion can also be localized, and that bubbles can form on the surface of the pipelines, potentially causing cracks to form. Environmental parameters can also lead to cracking. Elboujdaini explained this vast topic clearly and conveyed the importance of university research and the need for students to enter this field.
