Quebec City Branch welcomes Hall

Mrs Gwendy Hall and Mr Marc Constantin, president of the Quebec Branch

On January 30, the Quebec City Branch hosted CIM Distinguished Lecturer Gwendy Hall from the Geological Survey of Canada. Hall’s talk, titled Geochemical Exploration in Glaciated Terrain, described the geochemical features on surface, identifying volcanic structures in massive sulphides at Cross Lake in Abitibi. She offered recommendations on the analytical strategies and sampling, and suggested mechanisms for identifying elements. She demonstrated that it is the geochemical signature obtained from partial leaches that is particularly advantageous in exploration for orebodies at depth. She explained that although this approach has been successful, it also produced false anomalies where it’s used in inappropriate contexts. Thirty people attended the presentation sponsored by the Quebec Mining Association, Carrieres Polycor, Gestion SODÉMEX inc., Mines d’Or Virginia, and SOQUEM INC.
