Event Detail

MINING FOR SUCCESS II has been organized to provide an international forum where mining professionals may analyse and discuss recent innovations and developments related to The Social & Political Challenges of Mining in the 21st Century particularly as global mining and resource extraction projects face a whole new set of social and political challenges.

Strong demand for precious metals has driven growth, expansion, and exploration for minerals and metals in the Americas.  This boom has created thousands of new economic opportunities and billions of dollars of new investment throughout the region.  Despite the incredible growth, the mining sector in Latin America has experienced considerable upheaval as a result of growing resource nationalism, rising costs, and increasing social and political risks.

As a result Companies need to better understand the impact of these risks.  Companies that address these issues will increase the likelihood of their projects being developed and be more successful in maintaining their social license to operate.  We live in a digital age were media and social networking represents the principal source of information for people.  Mining has now become a high profile business within the mass media and as a result companies must realize that maintaining a low profile may not be the best approach with our Stakeholders.
