Society for Innovative Mining Technology
SHAPING THE FUTURE WITH SIMTWhat is SIMT?
The new CIM Society for Innovative Mining Technology (SIMT) was established in 2004 to understand, develop, share, and apply productivity improvements and the latest information technology and management science to drive business results in the mining and metals industries.
Mining is an important part of our society as can be seen by the products we use everyday. If we are to continue to have new products, we need to find innovative ways to use technology, systems, and methodologies in the minerals industry.
What will the mining industry look like in the coming years?
SIMT is a knowledge network of professionals committed to increasing the operational performance of our industry by creating new possibilities. Collectively, its membership strives to create an incubator for innovation.
SIMT intends to be the catalyst of change for the mining industry, in Canada and around the world, from the traditional underground and open pit technologies to underwater and in space.
The members of SIMT:
- Facilitate information exchange
- Foster research and development activities towards innovation
- Encourage technology transfer among industry players
- Serve as a bridge into other industries, learning from their experience and insight
How?
We take the latest in technology from different fields and mix it with the fundamental ideas of mining looking for new and innovative ways to become the miners of the future through:
- Presentations at conferences, including AUTOMIN and the CIM conference and exhibition
- Publication of technical papers and informative columns
- Involvement in international activities such as APCOM, SMART, and the Canadian Space Agency and NASA
SIMT provides a powerful interdisciplinary network of partnership and collaboration for innovation in the mining and metals industry.
Who are the members of SIMT?
Visionaries from academia, industry, and suppliers with an eye on what new technology can and should offer to the business of mining.
Be a part of the change.
