Heavy Equipment Repair Mechanics

Mines are characterized by the use of heavy equipment – trucks carrying up to over 450 tonne loads. As well, mine sites tend to be located in isolated areas, far from urban centres where most equipment suppliers are located. Due to these factors, heavy equipment repair mechanics are of great importance to the efficient operation of the mine. Part of the maintenance team, they are responsible for the repair and maintenance of the heavy equipment on the mine site. Training is offered at technical institutes, followed by a period of apprenticeship.
