EXPLORATION

Picture a full-size exploration tent filled with everything you need — tools, maps, beds, living items and more — to make that next big discovery. At this pavilion, you will be introduced to modern mineral exploration, prospecting and claim-staking techniques that can make new discoveries a reality.

MINING / PROCESSING - sponsored by HATCH

HATCH

Imagine operating a mining vehicle on a real simulator! Mine development, mineral extraction and different types of mines will be explored at this pavilion, including demonstrations of open pit versus underground mines, oil sands, hard and soft rock, aggregates, coal, etc. Learn about the process the mineral takes — from leaving the ground to going to the mill, to storage and transportation to the right location. Discover how electrical currents, magnets and bubbles help with mineral separation by running a froth flotation device or performing particle separation. The differences between how minerals, metals, oil, diamonds and gems are processed will revealed.

SUSTAINABILITY

Understand how mining supports sustainability, from green technologies to community developments. Explore a hybrid car, a vegetable oil-powered truck and other green technologies. Discover how mining and communities are dependent on each other. Here, you can understand how the mining industry works with local communities to their mutual benefit, and how mine sites can be reclaimed and enhanced for future uses, such as air strips, race car tracks, art exhibits, hi-tech scientific research facilities, underground homes, resorts, lakes, and much more.

PRODUCTS / FABRICATION

Discover how mined minerals are used every day as you walk through a full-scale model home. From toothpaste to computers and bicycles to fine art, products that we use in our day-to-day lives and that depend on mining for their creation will be on display. See photos of emergency rooms where equipment saves lives; look at vitamins that keep our bodies strong; and discover how each metal can be recycled and reused. The list of mined elements we utilize is endless and our lives are supported and sustained because of minerals and the products that contain them.

NEW FRONTIERS

From the ocean depths to deep space, you can get hands-on and explore new frontiers in mining technology! Become a “space miner” and experience what it would be like to try mining on the moon with a drill and crusher and even a moon Rover. Then explore for minerals in an undersea world, and check out robotic submarines, a mini submarine, interactive workstations and more. This high-tech pavilion shows you the cool technologies of today, and gives a fascinating glimpse at the next generation of mining and mineral frontiers and innovations.
