CIM Distinguished Lecturers
The CIM has traditionally maintained a slate of industry experts (distinguished lecturers) who travel across the industry in a given year to speak to assembled groups about their area of expertise. Generally one individual is selected from the recommendations made by the ME Division to participate in this program
Conditions of Award
- Persons shall be selected as CIM Distinguished Lecturers on the basis of their distinguished service and accomplishments in scientific, technical or administrative activities related to the mineral industries.
- Not more than eight Distinguished Lecturers shall be elected in any Council year.
- Nominations for the honour of CIM Distinguished Lecturer shall be made before the first day of December in the calendar year preceding the award by the executive of each of the Technical Divisions/Societies or the Institute, the Vice-Presidents and the Education and Mineral Economics Committees. Each nomination shall be accompanied by a statement supporting the nomination.
- The nominations shall be submitted to a special CIM Distinguished Lecturers Selection Committee under the chairmanship of the President-Elect and consisting of four other members appointed by Council. The Committee shall select the recipients, confirm their willingness to accept the honour and inform the Executive Director prior to the last meeting of Council preceding the Annual General Meeting of the Institute.
- The CIM Distinguished Lecturers shall be honoured at the Annual General Meeting and shall be presented with an illuminated certificate.
- The CIM Distinguished Lecturers are expected to give their lectures before appropriate groups of the Institute and at any Annual Meeting of the appropriate Division/Society. Where they or their companies are not in a position to absorb travelling expenses, these expenses shall be paid by the Institute from funds established to support the program.
