• Contenu technique des comptes rendus de conférences, d'une sélection d'ouvrages/de volumes spéciaux et des revues de l'ICM
L'ICM publie trois revues :
CIM books/special volumes are print editions that cover topics from all facets of the mining, minerals and materials industries. Currently, special volumes are only available in hard copy.

Résumé: Belt conveyors are widely used in materials handling industries. The bulk materials can be transported include ores, coal, earth, grain, fertilizer like potash, limestone, wood chips and so on. Along with the development of technologies and further automation requirements, belt conveyor instrumentation has also been updated to improve conveyor availability and liability. Traditionally belt conveyors are equipped with pull cord switches as emergency switch to shut conveyor down, misalignment...

Résumé: An often overlooked aspect of mining-associated processes is the biology on a microscopic scale. While small, microbes can exert massive influence (beneficial or detrimental) on a variety of chemical and geochemical processes, acting as catalysts to accelerate reactions or enable them to occur in a wider range of conditions. Additionally, microbes can impact physical processes, such as altering flows through fouling and/or corrosion. As a whole, the microbiological aspect of mining-associat...

Résumé: The Ultra Deep Mining Network, a $46M program within CEMI—The Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation in Sudbury, Ontario has brought together academics, small to medium-size commercial enterprises as well as the mining industry to work on challenging aspects of ultra deep mining and tight shale hydrocarbon extraction. Up to $5.7M is being expended by teams on seven projects over the coming 2-3 years to produce commercializable products with value for the ultra deep mining sector. The...

Résumé: The previous four decades, particularly the last, have seen many Research & Development efforts attempt to develop autonomous mining solutions. While autonomy is the ultimate level of automation, many other intermediate levels of automation exist.
This paper discusses the relative values and costs associated with the various levels of automation. It compares the path taken by some of the key developers toward autonomous mining. It also highlights the major repercussions these divergent...

Résumé: Energy in mining is a highly complex variable which accounts for approximately 30% of operational costs, and therefore, the mining company that successfully manages energy efficiency is a company with a major competitive advantage.

The challenge in mining and mineral processing operations is actually quite simple: to understand where energy is being utilized, how much is being used, and to identify the best strategies for optimizing usage and targeting the best cost/ benefit opportunities.

Résumé: Significant cost savings can be achieved by integrating the full life cycle of a tailings facility into each stage of development instead of focusing on a current stage in isolation. This is especially important because tailings facilities are unique and unlike water reservoirs: they permanently store tailings solids and water (liability) instead of holding water for beneficial use (asset); design and construction continue while tailings levels rise and codes, regulations and technologies...
