Adapted Comminution Circuit Design

Over the last two decades, the progressive but continuously decreasing head grades combined with a strong and sustained increase in operating cost has forced the miners to increase their project in size in order to produce more or less the same metal quantities so they could decrease or reduce their unit operating cost. The miners had no choice but to develop big projects to face these new realities. These changes have caused substantial increase in energy consumption and determining and designing the appropriate comminution circuit became a critical task.
Indeed, the demand for bigger and bigger equipment continues, particularly for comminution equipment, i.e. bigger SAG Mills, bigger Ball-Mills, bigger HPGR so it becomes even more important to be surrounded by experts in order to properly size and to purchase these equipment. There are only a few experts out there that could help mining companies in properly designing comminution circuit. Ausenco has these type of experts and they have also developed a proprietary software to simulate grinding circuit. This combined with their experience to design crushing circuit and to smartly layout crushing equipment, allows them to take the best possible decision for comminution circuit design. This paper will present the Ausenco approach in comminution circuit design.
