Student-Industry Partnership

CIM Edmonton 2008
Abstract Teck Cominco and UBC's Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering have been working closely together to improve both the quality of students' education and the caliber of recruited students and graduate engineers.
By gathering information about what types of opportunities graduates are pursuing, and surveying them directly about what the graduates value, the industry benefits from better recruitment and retainment.
Students also benefit by hearing directly what skills and traits the industry value; allowing them to seek opportunities prior to graduation that allow them to develop these characteristics.
