Standard TCP/IP Networks for mine and equipment automation

CIM Vancouver 2002
Abstract Nearly all office networks today and event the Internet are basing on Ethernet networks. In the recent years, Ethernet based networks also have been successfully introduced in technical applications and industry automation. The paper discusses the preconditions and use of Ethernet based protocols in the special surroundings of mining production environments. It explains problems of physical and logical network design in terms of e.g. network load behavior, connection losses and latency timing. Recommendations are made for design and realization of Ethernet based mining networks in practice.
