Louis J. Cabri is a consulting mineralogist (since October, 1999), after a 35-year career as research scientist at CANMET, Ottawa, Ontario, and is a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand and McGill University (doctoral degree in geological sciences in 1965). He currently holds an Emeritus Scientist position at CANMET, is adjunct professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland (Dept. of Earth Sciences) and at the University of Guelph (Dept. of Physics), and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Dr. Cabri has published over 160 technical papers dealing with process mineralogy, precious metal minerals, deportment of trace elements, phase equilibria in precious metal and base metal systems, as well as on innovative applications of new techniques to process mineralogy such as the proton microprobe, secondary ion mass spectrometry, laser ablation microprobe ICP-MS, hydroseparation and electric-pulse disaggregation. He is a recognized authority on platinum minerals, having edited two CIM Special Volumes on the platinum-group elements (SV 23, 1981 and SV 54, 2002), and has Lectured widely in Australia, North America, South America, and Western and Eastern Europe.
Dr. Cabri has been active in a number of professional societies, has organized successful international conferences and short courses, as well as edited conference proceedings and short course volumes. Louis Cabri is a Past President of the Geological Society of CIM and the Mineralogical Association of Canada, Past Editor of the Canadian Mineralogist, and has been the recipient of several national and international awards.
