In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the metallurgical industry, both nationally and internationally, in the areas of process understanding and optimization, and for his continuing leadership of the metallurgical profession.
John E. Dutrizac, a research scientist at CANMET in Ottawa, Ontario, received a Doctoral Degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Toronto in 1967. Since then, he has published over 200 technical papers dealing with the leaching of sulphide minerals, the electro-refining of copper and the processing of zinc, especially the iron control problem associated with zinc hydrometallurgy. He is a recognized authority on jarosite precipitation technology and the properties of jarosite-type compounds. One of his major efforts has been to promote co-operation within the industry and between the industrial and academic communities. Dr. Dutrizac has been active in a number of professional societies and has organized many successful international conferences and workshops. He is the editor of several conference proceedings and has an active involvement in historical metallurgy. John Dutrizac is a Past-President of the Metallurgical Society of CIM and has been the recipient of numerous national and international awards.
