In recognition of his many achievements in the mining industry nationally as well as internationally in engineering and managing the development of new concepts in the fields of mine design, ore processing and treatment.
Ken Thomas was, until recently, senior vice-president, technical services, of Barrick Gold Corporation, and had responsibility for all new mill, roaster and autoclave engineering and construction, technology development and the quality of ongoing metallurgical operations. During his tenure at Barrick, he led in the development and application of large-scale pressure leaching and oxygenated roasting for the gold industry. He was also involved in the advancement of thiosulphate leaching, as an alternate to cyanide leaching, for gold extraction. Presently, he is managing director, Mining and Mineral Processing, at Hatch, Mississauga. He has a Ph.D. in technical sciences from the University of Delft, The Netherlands.
