In recognition of his service to the Geological Society of CIM, for putting it on the national stage, and most especially his involvement in the establishment of the Exploration and Mining Geology journal and the SocietyÕs Field Conference Program
Born and raised in New Brunswick, Dr. McCutcheon received his Ph.D in geology from Dalhousie University in 1990, after taking educational leave from the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources and Energy. His thesis dealt with the stratigraphy, chemistry and mineral deposits of the Mount Pleasant caldera complex in southwestern New Brunswick.
Since 1987, he has been regional geologist for the northern half of the province, and is currently co-leader of the EXTECH 11 Project in the Bathurst Mining Camp, which is a multidisciplinary, 5-year project aimed at helping industry identify new base-metal reserves. He has authored and co-authored over forty papers and reports on the geology and mineral deposits of the province during his years with the Department. He is Past President of the Geological Society of CIM, Finance Chairman of the Geological Association of Canada, and a Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists.
